What is Multiple Myeloma?

Multiple myeloma is a type of cancer that affects plasma cells, a type of white blood cell in the bone marrow. These plasma cells are responsible for producing antibodies that help the body fight off infections. However, in multiple myeloma, these plasma cells become cancerous and multiply uncontrollably, crowding out healthy blood cells in the bone marrow. This can lead to a number of serious health problems, including anemia, weakened bones, and a compromised immune system.
