COPD Explained
Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD) is a progressive lung disease that makes it difficult to breathe. It is a common and often preventable condition that is characterized by increasing breathlessness.
COPD includes chronic bronchitis and emphysema, and it typically worsens over time. The main cause of COPD is long-term exposure to harmful gases or particulate matter, most often from cigarette smoke.
Individuals with COPD may be at increased risk of developing heart disease, lung cancer, and a variety of other conditions.
