Introduction: Understanding Mallory-Weiss Syndrome
Mallory-Weiss Syndrome is a condition that involves the tearing of the mucous membrane at the junction of the stomach and esophagus, known as the gastroesophageal junction. This tear occurs as a result of excessive force or pressure on the lining of the digestive tract, often due to vomiting or retching. It is named after two doctors, Kenneth D. Mallory and Soma Weiss, who first described the syndrome in the 1920s.
