Introduction to Broken Heart Syndrome
Broken Heart Syndrome, also known as stress-induced cardiomyopathy or takotsubo cardiomyopathy, is a temporary heart condition that is triggered by emotional stress or a sudden intense emotional event. Despite its name, broken heart syndrome is not caused by a heart attack, and it usually resolves on its own with no long-term damage to the heart. It was first described in Japan in the 1990s and has since been recognized as a distinct medical condition.
