Introduction to gingivitis and its symptoms

Gingivitis is a common gum disease characterized by inflammation and irritation of the gums. It occurs when plaque, a sticky film of bacteria, builds up on the teeth and gums. The symptoms of gingivitis include red, swollen, and tender gums, bad breath, and bleeding during brushing or flossing. If left untreated, gingivitis can progress to more severe forms of gum disease, such as periodontitis, which can lead to tooth loss.
